3 days of bird watching in the last griffon habitat in Serbia. This program envisions 3 days of bird watching. Uvac National Park, famous for spectacular meanders of the river with the same name and wild and unpolluted nature of rare beauty, that, apart from griffon, welcomes other animals of great interest for the nature, such are eagles, wolves, golden jackals and many more. Griffon is a bird, indigenous in central Serbia, and it used to be so numerous that it had even been on coats of arms of almost all famous Serbian nobility. Due to ruthless hunting, especially of young birds, in the 20th century it was almost extinct, so that in the same park there were only 7 couples left.

Since 1992, through the program of re-inclusion and protection, carefully and planned, the number of these ’masters of the air’ has been increasing, all the way to about 300 couples, which is their current number. In this beautiful natural setting we can photograph and meet, as well as enjoy natural beauties, such are deep canyons, wild creeks, crystal waters, impenetrable mountains full of caves and cliffs, numerous coniferous forests; we can also enjoy the excellent local cuisine.
The period between the end of March to late summer is recommended, when nice weather allows us to wander on mountain paths and get closer to the birds. Thanks to come special places, such is the griffons’ watering place known to park keepers, we can watch and photograph the birds from up close.
Griffon (Gyps fulvus, Linneo 1758) is a bird that belongs to Accipitridae family. It has a small head leaning forward even during flight, enormous triangular wings and short tail. It has evidently wider wings and shorter tail than the bearded vulture (Gypaetus barbatus). Juvenile griffons are darker than the adult ones.
The adults have white ornaments on their head and neck and whitish neck ruff.
They usually live between 30 and 40 years and reach sexual maturity at the age of 5-7; laying of eggs is from mid-January to the end of February. The eggs hatch after 52 to 58 days, and the young spend 110-120 in the nest. It lays only one egg. They mostly feed on carcasses (saprophagous). Griffons might form loose colonies, and they are mostly loyal to their habitat. They migrate only in large flocks.

1° Day
Arrival to Belgrade Airport and meeting with the translator. Departure to National Park Uvac, about 150 km away. After the arrival, gathering with your guide and leader for the following days, with whom you will have a short meeting, in order for him to present the complete program of the stay in more detail.
Dinner and overnight stay.
2°,3° e 4° Days
Watching, photographing and video recording of griffons in their natural habitat. Except for these large birds, it is possible to watch other species as well, that share the National Park with these ’masters of the air’.
5° day
After breakfast, departure to Belgrade Airport and, after checking in, parting, where our services end.
